Meet the Newest Panhandle Milling Interns
Panhandle Milling has welcomed three new interns into our ranks this summer. We are so excited to have them with us, and we hope they end their summer excited about their career paths and armed with applicable hands-on experience and knowledge they will be able to take with them.
We asked all three interns some questions about themselves that we thought we would share with you. With that said, get to know our interns!
University: West Texas A&M University
Hometown: Friona, Texas
What are you looking forward to learning with this internship?
I am looking forward to learning from the engineers at Panhandle Milling as well as learning about the overall business. I have not had much hands-on experience in engineering outside of college, so I am excited about the huge learning opportunity in front of me. I don’t know a lot about flour milling, so I am looking forward to understanding how the milling process works, along with how the machinery operates. I hope I can use my education and skills to benefit Panhandle Milling.
What do you enjoy most about engineering?
I enjoy engineering because I get to use my education and problem-solving skills to come up with solutions to problems. Since I was small, being in the engineering field has been in the back of my mind. And since I have always enjoyed math and science, those interests helped me make my decision to go into engineering at West Texas A&M University. Then when I found out I could use engineering with agriculture, which is another passion of mine, it solidified my decision.
What are you plans after college?
I want to try and stay in Texas, if possible, depending on the job opportunities. I also want to travel as much as possible, then eventually own a ranch where I can run cattle and farm, and hopefully own my own business too.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading a good book, hiking, fishing, hunting, growing plants, exploring new places, metal working, and spending time with family and friends. I love to do anything active and learn new things! I am also very interested in the agricultural industry.
Any interesting/fun facts about yourself?
An interesting fact about myself is that I am learning how to graft trees. My first project will be to graft peach tree scions to an apricot tree. Another interesting fact about myself is that I am in the Student Government at West Texas A&M. I can represent my fellow classmates in the Engineering Computer Science and Mathematics Department. Being in the student government allows me to stay up-to-date on the happenings at the university and help solve various issues on campus.
If you could be a superhero for a day, which one would you be?
I would be the Green Lantern for the day. Being able to fly would be awesome and create whatever I wanted with my mind would be cool!
It would be a tie between breakfast for any meal of the day or Mexican food.
University: Colorado Mesa University
Major: BA in Mass Communications
Hometown: Denver, Colorado
What is your favorite aspect of your major? The best part of my degree is the social aspect of working with other team members.
What do you hope to gain for your internship with Panhandle Milling? I hope I can improve my marketing skills and become more proficient in the work force by using different public relations strategies and applications.
Why did you choose your major? The unlimited possibilities! I love that my degree allows me to be versatile with many different career opportunities.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of work? I am very passionate about clean eating, and I love cooking. I’m vegan so everything I cook is plant based… But tasty nonetheless! I love yoga, and I am currently taking training to become a yoga teacher. I also enjoy scuba diving, and I’m always looking for new places to travel and visit. In the winter time, I’m in the mountains snowboarding at every opportunity.
If you could be a superhero for a day, which one would you be? Probably Spiderman (lady?) because I could scale the walls to work instead of taking the elevator. This might impress some people.
Three personality traits to describe yourself? People person, bubbly, easy going.
Fun fact about yourself? I’ve traveled to 19 countries so far.
Favorite food? I like Indian food and curries.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? Probably go somewhere random… Thailand?

What are you looking forward to learning with this internship? Many people do not understand the process which turns wheat into flour and then what ends up on the shelf for sale. I would like to learn and understand that process better while gaining a better understanding of the real world engineering environment from the engineers I will be working with.
What do you most enjoy about engineering? As a child, I always enjoyed taking things apart then putting them back together to understand how they worked. I also enjoyed that throughout school. Engineering has challenged me to think and solve problems in new ways.
What are your plans after college? After college, I will get married to my fiancé, Cheyenne. We plan on staying in Texas and following opportunities as they present themselves.
Hobbies/Interests? I enjoy watching and playing sports. I always try to make it to as many West Texas sporting events as I can… when professors haven’t swamped us with too much work!
What’s a fun fact(s) about yourself? My father is high school math teacher, and so when I was in 6th grade I started working through my father’s high school math textbooks. My father is a big reason why I chose to become an engineer in the first place.
What superhero would you be for a day? Iron Man
Last question, favorite food? BBQ
